Understanding how this VISA & MasterCard Telephone Credit/Debit Card Scam works, you will be better prepared to protect yourself.

This credit/debit card scam works like this A caller states they are from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA or MasterCard. They are calling to state that your credit/debit card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, they need to verify that you did not make an unusual purchase, plus to see if you have the card in your possession.

Here is the important part of the scam The caller will ask you to turn your card over and look for some numbers. There are seven (7) numbers; the first four (4) are part of your card number, the next three (3) are the security numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card.

The caller wants these last three (3) numbers, please do not give these numbers out to any unknown sources. This is a scam.

VISA & MasterCard will never ask for this information since they already know it because they issued the credit/debit card.
